About Paksha
Paksha is considered an important part of the Hindu calendar, which is determined based on the phases of the moon. A lunar month is divided into two Pakshas — Sud Paksha (bright phase) and Vad Paksha (Krishna Paksha). During Sud Paksha, the phase of the moon increases, while during Vad Paksha, the phase of the moon decreases.
Paksha has special importance in Hinduism and astrology, as the timing of auspicious activities, fasts, festivals and religious rituals is determined based on Paksha. Each Paksha is believed to have its own spiritual and religious influence.
Meaning and Significance of Paksha
The word “Paksha” means a part or a period of time. In the Hindu calendar, two parts of a lunar month are known as Paksha.
According to astrology, Paksha is considered to be related to the position of the moon and mental energy. It is believed that Paksha can affect a person's emotions, thinking and spiritual activities.
Sud Paksha and Vad Paksha
Sud Paksha starts after Amavasya and continues till Purnima. During this time, the moon's phase continues to increase and is considered a symbol of auspiciousness, positivity and progress.
Vad Paksha starts after Purnima and continues till Amavasya. During this time, the moon's phase continues to decrease and is considered favorable for introspection, peace and spiritual practice.
Religious significance of Paksha
In Hinduism, the importance of fasting, Ekadashi, Purnima, Amavasya and many festivals is determined based on Paksha. The rituals and worship performed in each Paksha are considered to have a different significance.
In the Puranas and astrological texts, Paksha is considered to be associated with the cycle of time and the power of the moon. It is believed that devotion and good deeds performed in the right Paksha give auspicious results.
Paksha and Astrology
According to astrology, Paksha indicates the influence of the moon. During Sud Paksha, positivity, development and auspicious deeds are considered favorable, while Vad Paksha is considered suitable for spiritual contemplation and inner peace.
Many astrologers pay special attention to Paksha for auspicious times and rituals. Especially, the right Paksha is chosen for marriages, housewarmings and new works.
Paksha and Festivals
Many important Hindu festivals are celebrated according to the Paksha. Apart from Purnima and Amavasya, the importance of Ekadashi, Navratri and other fasts is also determined according to the Paksha.
Festivals celebrated during Sud Paksha are considered a symbol of development and positivity, while religious days associated with sadhana and introspection have special significance during Vad Paksha.
Pashto and Spirituality
Pashto is also considered to be associated with spiritual life and state of mind. Many people try to attain spiritual peace by fasting, meditating, chanting and worshiping according to Paksha.
According to Hindu tradition, it is believed that sadhana and devotion performed in the right Paksha can lead a person to positivity, self-knowledge and spiritual progress.
